Overview
The VSSUT yearbook, Galaxy - The Annual Yearbook, stands as a testament to the collective experiences and cherished memories of the graduating batch. As a vital tradition of the University, Galaxy 2020 was not just a publication; it was a reflection of the profound journey undertaken by each student over the past 4 years of their lives. In my capacity as a member of the Core team for Galaxy 2020, it was our responsibility to create a memorable souvenier for the graduating batch - something they would cherish throughout the years.
Despite encountering unforeseen challenges amidst the lockdown in the COVID-19 Pandemic, the unwavering dedication of our team ensured that Galaxy 2020 got published.
My Role
I worked as the Designer for Galaxy 2020, working with the Chief Editor Shuvransu to illustrate an evocative cover-art and design templates for all pages and putting together the magazine using InDesign and Photoshop.

Context
The annual yearbook serves as a crucial memento for graduating students, encapsulating their time at VSSUT and fostering a sense of nostalgia. However, the COVID-19 lockdown posed logistical challenges, hindering the completion of the yearbook and leaving some students without professional photographs.
The Cover Art
VSSUT is the place that defined me as a person. Most of the best memories of my life were forged with friends there. Because of that, It was important to me from the very beginning that the cover art would be an illustration that would evoke memories of friendship and good times from Burla. I was given full creative freedom on this. Putting together scenes from Dyke and Hirakud, both iconic spots frequented by students, I put together the cover for Galaxy 2020. This cover defined the tone for the design of the entire yearbook.
Design
The design of the Galaxy 2020 yearbook aimed to evoke nostalgia and celebrate the graduating batch's achievements. I incorporated vibrant colors, engaging layouts, and design elements drawn from the cover page illustration to create a visually captivating publication. I designed the pages for the Yearbook in Photoshop and then populated an InDesign template for building the magazine.
Despite being under lockdown, using university resources and online messaging boards, we reached out to most of the graduating batch individually to request photographs, since the graduating batch's Photography sessions were interrupted by the pandemic lockdown. Using the write-ups collected and edited by the editorial team and the photos collected, we were able to populate and complete the magazine despite the challenging times.
Conclusion
The completion and distribution of the Galaxy 2020 yearbook marked a significant achievement, preserving the tradition and providing graduating students with a tangible reminder of their time at VSSUT. Despite the challenges faced, the yearbook served as a testament to resilience, creativity, and teamwork, strengthening bonds within the VSSUT community.
